Welcome to St. Barnabas’ Children’s Ministry!

We believe that children are a blessing and gift from the Lord.  Jesus tells us that we will meet Him in the children (Mark 9:37), and they are always a matter of first importance to Him (Matthew 19:14).  St. Barnabas warmly includes children in our community life, and also provides the following ministries for them:

Infants and Toddlers

We have two rooms with viewing windows into the chapel available for infants and toddlers.  Currently, we do not provide a program during the service for either age group.  Parents may use either of these rooms at any point during the service for diaper changes, nursing, play, or rest.

Ages 3 years–3rd grade

Children in this age group can participate in our Children’s Church program that takes place during our worship service.  Children will leave the chapel with their leaders after the reading of the Gospel and return to the chapel during the Passing of the Peace to participate in Communion.  It is a 30-40 minute program that typically follows the Lectionary for that week.  We are currently using Bible story curriculum and story aids from “Young Children and Worship” by Sonja Stewart and Jerome Berryman and “Following Jesus” by Sonja Stewart.  The children have a follow-up activity or craft that supports the lesson.

All of our children’s volunteers participate in the Ministry Safe program as required by the Anglican Church in North America.

Visiting parents are welcome to join their children during Children’s Church for part or all of the lesson.

4th grade and up

Kids in 4th grade and older are encouraged to serve actively as acolytes.  They assist the ministers in the procession, reading of the Gospel, and setting the Communion table. On-going teaching about Christian leadership, discipleship, and service are part of this ministry.
